Institute of Intensive Care Medicine

The Institute for Intensive Care Medicine at the USZ runs the largest intensive care unit in Switzerland with currently 64 beds. The various intensive care units provide round-the-clock care for critically ill patients and patients in life-threatening situations. Every year, almost 4,500 patients are cared for in the entire spectrum of modern intensive care medicine.

Intensive care medicine at the University Hospital Zurich is divided into six main areas of intensive care medicine, which are treated in specialised departments.

  • Focus on burns
  • Focus on traumatology
  • Focus on visceral, thoracic and transplant surgery

We are continuously working on the further development and improvement of intensive care medicine in clinical research, basic research and nursing research.
