The Spine Center is primarily supported by the three departments of Neurosurgery, Rheumatology and Trauma Surgery. The coordination of diagnostics, consultation, therapy and, if necessary, surgical treatment is thus provided from a single source. There is close cooperation with the departments of physiotherapy and occupational therapy as well as all other clinics of the USZ.
In addition to the three core departments, there are close links to many other departments and institutes of the USZ. A range of services such as at the Spine Center is rarely found in this form. For example, if the spinal cord is threatened with constriction due to a malignant disease, the specialists from the three core clinics work together with hematology/oncology, radio-oncology, neurology, radiology and neuroradiology to draw up an emergency concept and thus ensure further treatment. Another example is geriatric traumatology: Here, specialists in geriatric medicine (geriatrics) accompany the inpatient and outpatient healing process to ensure the special needs in the treatment of older people.
