Larsson-Rosenquist Foundation Center for Neurodevelopment, Growth and Nutrition of the Newborn (LRF NGN Center)

The Larsson-Rosenquist Foundation Center for Neurodevelopment, Growth and Nutrition of the Newborn (LRF NGN) has jointly been established by the University of Zurich and the Family Larsson-Rosenquist Foundation in October 2019. It is affiliated with the Department of Neonatology of the University Hospital Zurich. The interdisciplinary research group of physicians, cell-biologists, and psychologists is led by Prof. Dr. med. Giancarlo Natalucci, attending neonatologist and developmental pediatrician.

At the center, we aim to investigate the impact of early infant’s nutrition on neurodevelopment. In particular, we are interested in developmental influences of human milk constituents and interactions with parenting and the home learning environment.

In addition to a clinical research program on the association between early nutrition and functional short- and long-term outcomes, we plan to conduct basic research into the characterization and biochemical behavior of nutrients and bioactive compounds of breastmilk that may protect neuronal cells and stabilize physiological functions.

Our final aim is to establish an interdisciplinary competence center in neurodevelopment, growth and nutrition in neonatology, which will address the development of children and the specific needs of their families.

A large-based group of motivated collaborators, together with local and international collaborative networks, will ensure the implementation and success of our various projects.

The projects of our Center involve many mothers and their children, as well as pregnant women.
