The Clinic for Cardiac Surgery at the University Hospital Zurich is concerned with the surgical treatment of congenital and acquired heart defects in adult patients as well as with the treatment of diseases of the aorta in the chest.
Today, modern cardiac surgery means that the treating surgeon tailors the therapy to the individual patient. As a rule, the patient’s primary care physician and specialists in cardiology and cardiac surgery work together, weigh up all the options with the patient and plan the optimal surgical strategy. After the operation, we work with you to choose the best possible rehabilitation option, either as an outpatient or in an appropriately specialized clinic.
Thanks to increasing life expectancy and better therapeutic options, we see more older patients today than in the past. They often have a whole range of secondary diseases that unfortunately prevented cardiac surgery just a few years ago. Today we can often help these seriously ill heart patients. We are happy to support you with information about heart surgery on our website. Individual solutions require individual advice. Therefore, we encourage you to contact us directly if you have any questions.
We want to offer and provide excellent services in medical care and support the top position of the University Hospital in this field in the long term. As a maximum care provider, we offer all therapeutic options at all times and are on call for you around the clock, all year round.
