The Department of Neurosurgery is specialized in the surgical treatment of diseases of the brain and spinal cord. Our primary focus is on the treatment of brain tumors, vascular diseases, epilepsy and movement disorders. We also treat tumors of the spinal cord and diseases of the spinal column as herniated discs and spinal stenosis.
We are characterised by long-standing traditions combined with continuing innovation. Our traditional values apply to both the technical neurosurgical treatment and the dedicated care that we provide to our patients and their families. Key neurological techniques that are now part of the standard neurosurgical repertoire were developed here in Zurich. For the past 15 years we have successfully used intraoperative imaging and neuronavigation as routine in more than 1600 patients. For our surgery we use the latest technological advances like intraoperative MRI, neurosphysiological monitoring, minimally invasive, computer-guided technology and endoscopy. This allows us to achieve the best possible treatment for all our patients.
Our specialist teams cover the entire spectrum of neurosurgery. Upward of 1200 operations are carried out each year in the Department. We routinely employ the latest technologies, which, together with close multi-disciplinary collaboration with neighbouring disciplines, results in the highest level of competence and safety for our patients.
The Zurich Department of Neurosurgery focuses on traditional vascular neurosurgery, skull base neurosurgery and epilepsy neurosurgery using microsurgical techniques:
