Robotic Fellowship

This fellowship offers a unique insight and approach to robotic surgery for anatomic lung resections and pathologies of the mediastinum.

Robotic Fellowship for 6 months

The Department of Thoracic Surgery at the University Hospital Zurich has been the first institution in Switzerland and one of the first University Hospitals in Europe starting a thoracic-robotic program (Da Vinci 3-Arm).

In May 2004, we performed our first thymectomy for Myasthenia Gravis. Later we started our lung resection program with the Xi in December 2016. Ever since the percentage of RATS-lobectomies is rising continuously and is now 31% of all lobectomies performed at our institution. Up to now, two surgeons of our team are trained “console-surgeons” and perform robotic interventions.

This fellowship offers a unique insight and approach to robotic surgery for anatomic lung resections and pathologies of the mediastinum. Starting as a proctor-center in 2021, this will enable the robotic-fellow additional insights of this modern technique.

Requirements for the Robotic Fellowship:

  • Fully trained for thoracic surgery (board certificated)
  • German language skills in writing and speaking (at least proficiency level B2)

The fellow is given the opportunity to assist and participate in clinical decision processes as the tumor board, clinical rounds and in the outpatient clinic. The robotic database enable the fellow to participate in specific projects.

Funding

The robotic fellowship is supported with a grant of CHF 18’000.
